Robert Lineburg Announces Retirement as Director of Athletics at Radford University

Radford University Director of Athletics Robert Lineburg announced his retirement effective December 31, 2026, ending a 19-year tenure. Deputy AD Cory Durand will serve as interim director.

Radford University Director of Athletics Robert Lineburg announced his retirement, effective December 31, 2026, bringing to a close a 19-year tenure leading Highlander athletics.

A Radford native, Lineburg took over the department in the fall of 2007 and oversaw 16 varsity sports through a period of sustained competitive and academic success. During his tenure, Radford captured 27 Big South regular-season championships and 24 Big South tournament titles, and made 33 NCAA tournament appearances.

Lineburg also spearheaded a series of major capital projects, including renovations to the Dedmon Center, the construction of a new baseball stadium, the creation of the Sioros Center, and the establishment of the VCOM Sports Medicine Center. He led the development of a 10-year strategic plan, introduced a unified athletic brand identity, and guided record fundraising through the Highlander Club.

Under his leadership, the athletic department maintained graduation rates near 100% and consistently posted Academic Progress Rate scores above the national average.

Deputy Athletics Director Cory Durand has been named interim Director of Athletics, effective January 1, 2027.
