Radford Police Hold Community Safety Event Following Weekend Shooting

Following a deadly shooting in Radford early Saturday morning when a teen allegedly shot and killed another person, the Radford City Police Department hosted a pop-up community safety event Tuesday on Downey Street, where the shooting took place. The goal was to be proactive in preventing similar incidents. The event was part of the department's 'Lock It Up, Save a Life' campaign focused on gun violence prevention, awareness, and education. Resources included free gun locks, firearm safety guidance, and theft prevention strategies. Sgt. Hite noted an uptick in crime on the east end of the city over the last six months. The department has increased patrols, particularly on weekends.
