Radford Police hold community safety event following weekend shooting

Radford Police hosted a community safety pop-up on Downey Street after a teen fatally shot someone, focusing on gun violence prevention and free gun locks.

Following a deadly shooting in Radford early Saturday morning when a teen allegedly shot and killed another person, the Radford City Police Department hosted a pop-up community safety event Tuesday on Downey Street. The event was part of the department's "Lock it up, Save a life" campaign focused on gun violence prevention, awareness, and education. Police gave out free gun locks and stressed the importance of properly securing firearms. Sgt. Emily Hite noted an uptick in crime on the east end of the city over the last six months.
