Four Arrested After Shooting Near Radford University Campus
An altercation between four individuals on East Main Street near Radford University erupted into gunfire on April 17, 2025, leaving two people wounded. Four suspects have been arrested on charges including aggravated malicious wounding and armed robbery.
On April 17, 2025, at approximately 3:03 p.m., Radford City Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 1200 block of East Main Street. The incident began as an altercation inside an apartment that continued into a parking lot, where additional shots were fired. Two individuals sustained gunshot wounds.
Radford University issued a "secure-in-place" notification as a precaution, which was later lifted after police determined the shooting was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the campus community.
Four suspects have been charged in connection with the shooting:
- Robert Leonard, 47, of Radford — charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated malicious wounding, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Leonard was among those injured.
- Sidney Schwartz, 22, of Elliston — charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony, and conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding. Schwartz was also injured.
- Dominick Anderson, 23, of Roanoke — charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, and conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony. Held without bond at New River Valley Regional Jail.
- Trevion Johnson, 21, of Roanoke — charged with armed robbery, aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Awaiting extradition to Virginia.
The investigation was conducted with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies. Authorities continue to search for two additional suspects connected to the incident.
